Status of coastal resources of the San Vicente, Palawan [Philippines] learning site

For socio-economic profile, a total of 206 respondents were chosen from different sitios in San Vicente. Sitio Panindigan of Poblacion was the most populous and had the most number of households. Majority of the respondents had elementary education and owned their houses. The main source of livelihood was fishing (57.27%) followed by farming, business, skilled and unskilled, fisheries related and fishing with non-fisheries relation income. Fishing with fishery related income provided the biggest source of average monthly income of P6,000 followed by business at an average of P5,120/month. Fishing only provided P2,041 average monthly income. Majority of respondents had very low income, i.e. less than P1,000/mo. On legal profile, the coastal community of San Vicente adopted the open-access system of marine resources allocation. No zoning policy as regards to coastal/marine resource has been enforced by the local authorities. However, some regulators measures (e.g. prohibition of operation of hulbot-hulbot, likom-likom, basnig, etc.) were passed by the local legislative councils
