History of cotton growing on Pakistan especially in Sindh Province has been discussed and extent of damage by various insect pests to cotton crop has been mentioned. Based on the review from several literature on H. armigera a detailed information is available in the text on field identification of eggs, larvae, pupae and adult, geographic distribution of the pest biology and behavior, number of generation in Pakistan and in the other part of the world on various crops. Similarly, lengthy discussions has been done on alternate host plants, population dynamics and carry over of the insect from season and crop to crop.
