Floral sex expression were studied in five cultivars of date viz., Dhakki, Hillawi, Shamran, Khudrawi and Aseel at Date Palm Research Sub-Station, Jhang during 1995 and 1996. Parameters under studies were total number of flower per spathe, pistillate flowers and sterile flowers per spathe and fruit setting percentage. Maximum number of pistillate flowers were counted in Aseel (99.95 %) followed by Shamran, Khudrawi, Hillawi and Dhakki with means of 99.88, 99.71, 99.65 and 99.54 respectively during first year. In each case the remaining flowers were the sterile ones. Maximum number of flowers per spathe were born by Hillawi (3145) followed by Aseel (2444) and Khudrawi (2072) while minimum number of flowers per spathe were found on Dhakki (1088) followed by Shamran (1767). Maximum fruit setting of 71.93 percent was noticed in case of Hillawi followed by Dhakki, Khudrawi and Aseel with means of 66.69, 64.46 and 63.62 respectively. While minimum fruit setting percentage (53.36) was observed in Shamran. Almost comparable trend has observed in all characters studied during the second year.
