This study was located at Tambon Laem Phak Bia, Changwat Phetchaburi between December 1996-June 1998. The objectives were to study the type and quantity of heavy metals; namely, Hg, Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni and As accumulated in birds. The accumulation storage rate of the human body was used for the comparison standard. From this study the build up of six heavy metals in 19 birdspecimen in 5 species of 2 orders and 3 families was examined. Javan Pond Heron (Ardeola speciosa) had accumulation exceeding the standard of Hg and Cr. Little Egret (Egretta garzetta), White-breasted Waterhen (Amaurornis phoenicurus) and Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) had accumulation exceeding the standard of Hg. None of the heavy metals exceeded the standard for the Slaty-breasted Rail (Rallus striatus). It was shown that these heavy metals caused a reduction in species and number of birds and also measure of the environmental quantity where birds live.
