Domestic wastewater is the major source of water pollution in river and directly impacts to health of population as well as the environment. Under the project of His Majesty the King, Chaipattana Foundation, there was responsibility to solve these problems by utilizing appropriate technology and natural methods. This study applied this concept to find capacity of Petchaburi river in recieving wastewater overflow from collecting system. The result of study indicated that dissolve oxygen in Petchaburi river varied in range of 4.9-6.7 mg/l and BOD5 varied between 1.3-1.8 mg/l which met surface water quality standard of class 3. At sea, water quality all of stations met seawater quality standard, except the station at Bang Ta Boon gulf and Ban Laem gulf in rainy season were below standard. The results of domestic wastewater of Petchaburi municipality had average BOD5 of 557.9 mg/l and COD 1,179.7 mg/l which were higher than the standard as 20 mg/l, BOD and COD Ratio were 2:1. According to the capacity of organic matter biodegradation in Petchaburi river, it had average deoxygenation rate of 1.12 mg/l-day, average deoxygenation rate of 1.75 mg/l-day and average maximum potential BOD5 loading of 14,200.92 kg/day. Results concluded that Petchaburi river could absorp municipal wastewater overflow from collecting system but wastewater discharge flow should be under condition of oxygen balance, stream flow and maximum BOD5 loading at that time.
