[Inhibitory effects of toxic plants to phytopathogenic fungi]

Inhibitory effects of toxic plants to phytopathogenic fungi were done and screened on PDA incorporated with ground plants. Results showed that the star anise (Illicium verum Hook f.) had the highest efficiency to inhibit the growth of seed borne fungi of Zea mays L. var. Super sweet corn i.e. Aspergillus flavus Link, A. niger van Tieghem and A. oryzae Sakaguchi and Yamada. It was shown that the star anise had the highest potential to control A. niger (ED50=14,000 ppm) and followed by A. oryzae (ED50=36,000 ppm) and A. flavus (ED50 39,000 ppm). Moreover, the star anise extracts with 95 percent ethyl alcohol or hot water could be inhibited the spore production of each tested fungi at all concentrations which shown the value of ED50 less than 10,000 ppm. However, star anise extract with 95 percent ethyl alcohol had more inhibitory effects of spore production than the extract with hot water.
