Use of soybean meal and corn gluten meal replacing shrimphead meal and squid meal in presence of feeding attractants for Penaeus monodon Fabricius

Soybean meal and corn gluten meal at the ratio of 5:3 were used to replace shrimp head meal and squid meal in presence of two attractants extracted from beet root and from squid liver oil in diets for Penaeus monodon shrimp, averaging 0.944-0.956 g in body weight, stocked at 30 shrimps in a 500 ml water fiber glass tank. Three groups of shrimp with 3 replications each were fed with 6 isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets for 8 weeks. Results indicated that weight gain (WG), feed intake (FI), feed convertion ratio (FCR), survival rate (SR), protein efficiency ratio (PER), energy retention (ER) of shrimps recieved soybean meal and corn gluten meal diets were similar (P0.05) to those received the control diet with shrimp head meal and squid meal. The protein retention (PR) of shrimp fed soybean meal and corn gluten meal diets was significantly lower (P0.05) than that fed the control diet. Values of WG, FI, FCR, SG, PER, PR and ER shown by shrimps fed two diets with different attractants were identical but were significantly higher (P0.05) than those of shrimps fed the control diet. The results from this study revealed that soybean meal and corn gluten meal could substitute for shrimp head meal and squid meal in shrimp diets and that the use of attractants increased the production performances in shrimp.
