In Turkey the region comprising Menderes, Gumuldur and Seferihisar townships of Izmir province is the major Satsuma mandarin produced. As in the other coastal parts of the Mediterranean Basin, this region is also threatened by salinity due to seawater intrusion. Salinity exerts significant effects on vegetative and generative properties of trees. In previous researchwork, chloride content of the fruit juice was found to be highly correlated with salinity. A survey carried out to determine the Cl content of the fruit juice in the coastal Satsuma orchards and thus to put forth the impact of salinity
