Determination of cross compatibility between Akca and some pear cultivars (Pyrus communis L.), and Pyrus elaeagrifolia Pallas in vivo

In this research, compatible pollinizers were seeked for one of the earliest maturing pear cultivar Akca in 1996 and 1997. Pollinizers were Akca, Ankara, Beurre Clairgeau, Passe Crassane, Williams pear cultivars (Pyrus communis L.) and a wild type of P. elaegrifolia Pallas. Flower phenology of Akca was coincided with others in both years. 46.3-54.3% pollen germination was obtained in 47.7% and 46.1%, respectively. Number of pollen tubes in style were determined by fluorescence microscopy 2, 4 and 6 days after pollination in vivo
