Soybean straw is by product from soybean production which is estimated to be about 200,000-500,000 tons/year. It composes of stem and pod. The nutritive values is higher than rice straw (average crude protein 5-8 percent in DM). The digestibility of most nutrients in about 30-60 percent. It could be well used as roughage for ruminant both fresh and ensiled form. The method to improve the nutritive values or to preserve soybean straw is chemical or mechanical treatment. The performance of cattle (growing, finishing and lactating period) fed with soybean straw or urea treated soybean straw as roughage source and supplemented with concentrate are comparable to fresh grass and better than rice straw or urea treated rice straw.
