Ratchai Jivavitoonkit
Eight varieties of maize were screened for resistance to the corn stem borer, Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenee) under laboratory and field conditions at Suwan Farm, Nakhon Ratchasima province. In the laboratory experiment screens eight corn varieties for resistance to the corn stem borer by feeding larva with corn plant tissue in plastic boxes. In the field experiment screens eight corn varieties for resistance to corn stem borer under artificial infestation and natural infestations. Results in the field and laboratory experiments showed the same trend. It was appeared that Suwan 3, identified as a resistance variety whereas (Suwan 3 x YR3) F6, (Suwan 2 x YR3) F6 and (Hasp x YR3) F6 were moderately resistance. For Hawaiian sugar super sweet, HS 11476, Thai super sweet composite no.1 DMR, and Argo varieties were susceptible to corn stem borer.
