Ri, Ho and Dong Tao are three popular local breeds of chicken in north VietNam. The body weigh of Ri, Ho and Dong Tao at 4 months of age is 1324g; 2083g and 2116g, respectively. A hen of Ri, Ho and Dong Tao lays 108, 54 and 55 eggs, respectively, in one year with corresponding egg weight of 36.4g, 52.4g, and 54.2g. It was found that the size of internal organs differed significantly among the breeds, except heart weight. The quantity of erythrocytes, leucocytes and hemoglobin in blood of three breeds were similar to the exotic chicken. The content of protein, alpha-globulin, gamma-globulin and gamma-GT in blood were higher in rooster than in hen. However, the gamma-globulin content of local breeds appeared to be lower than in hen. Howerver, the gamma - globulin content of the local breeds appeared to be lower than exotic races. Also no large differences in the contents of water, protein, fat, potassium and sodium containing in muscle have been found among local and exotic chicken
