Nguyen Dinh Phuc
Results of a study on shoot production behavior of Dendrocalamus latiflorus Munro shown that the species is belong to a symbodial type of bamboo with high shoot production capacity. This bamboo can adapt with different soil types but prefers well drained dept soil. The kinds of bamboo shoots were observed: "tubers","ivories" and "tube - shaped". There are two crops per year, differ in yield and quality. Shoot growth is found slow in the first period, up to 30 cm in height, then very rapid and can attain two times of the initial height in 6 days. This characteristic is very important for the management of shoot harvest. Shoot development is influenced by both intrinsic and external factors. The most important external factors influencing shoot production are regime of rain, soil moisture and the management interventions. To sustain shoot production, the maintenance of a number of bamboo stems and shots and other management techniques are recommended
