The effects of transverse structures in torrent control depend on a series of factors and they are mostly beneficial. However, their effect may be adverse when the structures are designed, constructed and applied in an inadequate manner. The aim of this paper is to define and quantify the main positive effects and in this respect to present the effects of bed slope on the slope of siltation and sediment load on bed consolidation, because the effects of transverse structures are primarily evaluated by the slopes of siltation and by the amounts of accumulated sediment.
