Trichloroethene pollution in aquifer at Sajolad [Hungary]

The North-Hungarian Regional Waterworks provides water supply in three counties (in Hungary). Sajolad wellfield is located near Miskolc (Hungary) and its basic task is partitipation on water supply of the town. On 15th September 1994 trichloroethene content higher than the Hungarian drinking water standard was found in a well strainered between 46-61 m in the second layer. It was investigated within the scope of national damage avertation programme and it was discovered that contamination happened about twenty years ago in a Screw Manufacturing Plant that is 5.5 km distance from the well. The complete pollutant tail was determined and protection measures were prepared for various water production levels.
