Investigation of toxic elements in 35 samples of different meat products collected from stores in the Vojvodina Province, Serbia (Yugoslavia) is presented. Toxic elements - lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), arsenic (As) and cobalt (Co), as well as some potential toxic elements as iron (Fe), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) were estimated by AAS (Varian Spectr AA-10). It was concluded that the content of determined toxic elements, in all the investigated samples was under the permitted limits according to Yugoslav regulations (Sl. list SRJ 5/92).
