Effect of different Ni concentrations (10E-7, 10E-5 and 10E-3 mol/cubic dm) on the acitivity of an antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase, lipid peroxidation intensity and oxygen radical quantity in young plants of wheat and maize has been studied using the method of water cultures. The obtained results have shown that the lower Ni concentrations increased the enzyme's activity, while the higher concentrations decreased its activity in both wheat and maize. Consequently, the oxygen radicals quantity was significantly lower at lower Ni concentrations. At high Ni concentration, in wheat leaves, the oxygen radicals quantity increased. In the leaves of maize the oxygen radicals quantity increased with increase in Ni concentrations. Lipid peroxidation process occurred in both examined species and the content of its final product, malonyldialdehyde, ibcreased with increase in Ni concentrations in the solution.
