Investigations of the state of fishery fleet, gears, resources, and aquaculture from 1997 to 1999 showed that demersal resources of the Montenegrin shelf and probably circalittoral resources of artisanal fishery are overfished. Thus available resources for further development are pelagic, demersal resources of continental slope, and particularly, development of aquaculture. The legislation concerning marine fishery needs essential improvements.
