An assessment was made of the opportunities and risks presented by multi-use of forest resources in industrial societies. Here, the collective need (heritage needs) is increasingly becoming the deciding factor-part of the general trend of economic globalisation. One method of resolving the conflict between ecology and economy is to look for ways in which they can co-exist. To do this, the value of native timber products must be enhanced by using the latest technology. It is also essential to reach a compromise between technological and biological rationalisation.
