Regenerable alfalfa line was transformed with a poplar gene, encoding for a key enzyme (CCoOMT), involved in lignin biosynthesis. In the present study we describe the results from lignin quatitative analyses of the selected transgenic plants, and preliminary data from a field trial with the progeny of the lines exhibited reduced lignin content and better digestibility.
