Effect of the thinning of ovaries on the stem on the growth and productivity of greenhouse cucumbers
2001
Dimitrov, P. | Mihov, M. (Institut of Horticulture and Canning, 4003 Plovdiv (Bulgaria))
It was established that the increasing of the main stem loading with friuts in cucumbers results in intensifyng of the competition between the vegetative and reproductive organs for nutrient substances as a result of which the vegetative growth delays and inhibits development of secondary and following classbranches. As a result of this the number and weight of the fruits, formed on the branches decreased and the part of the non-standart produce increases. In the specific microclimatic conditions, treatment with 7 ovaries on the main stem permits the most balanced distribution of the nutrient substances for feeding of maximum number of fruits on the plant as this did not reflect significantly on their growth and quality.
