English. One of the most important problems in pompons cultivars is incited by Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV), that causes severe losses in production and propagation areas. The purpose of the present investigation was to study some aspects of the biological transmission, so it was determine the main characteristics of the biological transmission of TSWV by the vector Frankliniella occidentalis and the potential of the vector to transmit the virus. The minimun feeding time requierd for the larvae of F. occidentalis to acquire the virus TSWV was five minutes and ten minutes for inoculative adults of the vector to transmit the virus to healthy plants of "Yellow Polaris" cultivar. The probability to acquire and inoculate effectively the virus was increased if feeding time was enlarged. When the vector acquired the virus in the adult stage it couldnnt transmit the virus. It confirms that only the larvae of the vector can acquire the virus effectively. The latent period of the virus inside the vector was eight days and in this assay there was not transovaric transmission of the virus. In the test of the potential transmission, one inoculative adult of the vector was able of transmit the TSWV to healthy plants of "Yellow Polaris" and it was increased the percentage of infected plants with the virus if the number of inoculative thrips was enlarged.

Uno de los principales problemas fitosanitarios que se presenta en el cultivo de pompón en invernaderos es ocasionado por el virus de la marchitez manchada del tomate (Tomato spotted wilt virus = TSWV), el cual causa grandes pérdidas en las áreas de producción y propagación de este cultivo. Con el objeto de estudiar algunos aspectos de la transmisión biológica, en éste trabajo se evaluó el umbral de las principales características de la transmisión biológica del virus TSWV vía el vector Frankliniella occidentalis y la eficiencia del vector para transmitir el virus. El tiempo mínimo de alimentación requerido por las larvas de F. occidentalis para adquirir el virus TSWV fue de cinco minutos y de diez minutos en los adultos inoculativos del vector para transmitir el virus a plantas sanas de la variedad "Yellow Polaris". En ambos casos se incrementó la probabilidad de adquirir e inocular eficientemente el virus al ampliar el tiempo de alimentación del vector. Los adultos del vector que ingirieron partículas virales en este estado no pudieron transmitir el virus, con lo que se confirma que solo las larvas del vector pueden adquirir eficientemente el virus. El periodo de latencia del virus en el vector fue de ocho días y en las pruebas realizadas no se presentó la transmisión transovárica del virus a las progenies del vector F. occidentalis. En las pruebas del potencial de transmisión, un individuo adulto inoculativo del vector fue capaz de transmitir el virus TSWV a plantas sanas de "Yellow Polaris" y se incrementó el porcentaje de plantas infectadas con el virus al aumentar el número de trips inoculativos.
