Linden and its important leaf-eating pest

The article deals with the occurrence, bionomics and harmfulness of Calirea annulipes that in the years 1999 and 2000 gradated on the small-leaved linden (Tilia cordata) in Brno. In nature Calirea annulipes was developing mostly over 6 instars and its development lasted 31 to 40 (in laboratory 21 to 30) days, from egg laying to finishing the feeding. In the laboratory conditions the larvae were developing over 6 to 8 instars. The male larvae damaged about 1.071 (female ones 2.057) sq. mm of small-leaved linden leaves. The development of Calirea annulipes is realized in two cycles. About 30 % of eggs was parasitized by Trichogramma sp. and about 5 % by Holecremnus vitripennis larvae. The most important predators appeared to be birds, from them mainly sparrows (Passer spp.).
