Treatment of large skin defects in distal parts of extremities of two horses by transplantation

Large unhealing skin defects were treated by punch transplantation. The grafts were collected with a bioptic needle. The implantation bed was prepared by resection of hypergranulation and fibrous tissue and protective bandaging for a three-week period to allow the development of sound granulation tissue. The grafting induced growth of epithelium not only around the grafts, but also from the wound margins. Eighty % of the grafts were accepted and healing of the wounds was completed within 4 or 9 weeks.
