Rehulka, J. (Jihoceska Univ., Opava (Czech Republic). Vyzkumny Ustav Rybarsky a Hydrobiologicky)
Thirty-three fishes of 10 species (Esox lucius, Perca fluviatilis, Oncorhynchus mykiss, Salmo trutta m. fario, Leuciscus cephalus, Rutilus rutilus, Abramis brama, Carassius carassius, Tinca tinca, Chondrostoma nasus) from the water reservoir Slezska Harta (Moravice river, Czech Republic) were examined in order to determine the contamination with metals (Hg, Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn, As, Cr, Al), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), DDT, HCH and hexachlorobenzene (HCB). Mercury was among the most hazardous elements of the spectrum of metals, 78 % of animals being contaminated above the Czech limits (0.1 mg/kg for non-predatory, 0.5 mg/kg for predatory fish species). Mercury concentations were the highest in three- to six-year-old Perca fluviatilis. PCB and DDT concentrations did not exceed the recommended limits. A positive relation between the accumulation of polutants and the weight of the animals was found.
