The variability, heritability and correlations of the content of vitamin E and its isomers were studied in caryopses of the F2 generation of spring barley. The level and variability of these essential substances were compared with the parental forms (parents) for which the following were selected: donors of the increased content of cereal dietary fibre, the so-called waxy varieties Wabet, Wanubet and Washonubet, the latter two were nudum forms the same as line KM 1057, and hulled varieties of malting barley, Kompakt and Krona. All the parents and their hybrids were statistically significant sources of the variability of vitamin E and of all natural isomers alpha, beta and gamma and delta-tocopherols (T) and tocotrienols (T3). The content of vitamin E and all tocols (T and T3) in the dry matter of grain fluctuated within the range of 16.05-30.38 mg.kg/l and 62.85-114.45 mg.kg/l, the T:T3 ratio was approximately 1:5.
