Low temperature pumping characteristics of biodegradable chainsaw oils

Low temperature pumping characteristics of biodegradable oils used in power chainsaws were investigated in this paper. Eleven different type of oils were studied (one mineral oil, one mixture of a mineral and a biodegradable oil, nine biodegradable oils). As a result of the study, the oils were classified into 4 groups based on the temperature threshold established during the pumpability experiments. Biodegradable oils are more suitable for use in timber harvesting operations at low temperature than mineral oils.
