Observation of mixed forest stand with conspicuous abundance of the Scotch elm (Ulmus glabra) started in the autumn 1999. Stand is situated on the slopes around a place of a medieval castle Hlodny lying above the Bela River in the Antoniino udoli Valley in the piedmont of the Orlicke hory Mts. Observed forest stand represents unique residue of talus wood on the sharp slopes of the deep river valley. This locality is drafted to declaration as natural preserve for the high abundance of Scotch elm there. This paper describes natural conditions and forest stand structure of the locality and predictions development of natural regeneration, including management leading to conserve biodiversity of the forest and preservation of present abundance of Scotch elm including other woody species in the stand.
