Possibility of use planting stock grown by greenhouse technology for reforestation in mountain conditions

Reforestation of mountain localities poses increased claims on planting stock quality. Growth and health state of plantings of spruce (Picea excelsa) founded by plants grown in nursery by common way (2+2 bare-rooted transplants, 2+1+1 transplants in Jiffy pots) have been confronted with performance of plantings founded by plants grown by intensive greenhouse technology (1+1 plugs). Plugs grew very intensively during first years after planting onto mountain clear-cuts. Since the 4th year after planting their growth slowed down and their state of health worsened. More long-term observation of such planting stock is necessary. Experimental plots were founded by beech (Fagus silvatica) in different altitudes. Seedlings and transplants had been grown in various containers or as bare-rooted. New containers used for growing of forest tree planting stock are tested from viewpoint of biological applicability, namely from viewpoint of the risk of root deformities.
