Porcine pleuropneumonia in East Bohemian swine herds
2002
Svastova, A. (Statni Veterinarni Ustav, Pardubice (Czech Republic))
Results of investigations carried out between 1996 and 2000 are summarised. Bacteriological examinations of porcine lung samples yielded positive results in 59.4 % of the tested animals. The most frequently isolated species was Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (mostly serotype 9) alone or in combination with Pasteurella multocida. Resistance to tetracycline was demonstrated in 40.4 and 22.6 % of the serotypes 9 and 2, respectively. The corresponding proportions for penicillin were 36.3 % (serotype 9) and 16.1 % (serotype 2). Infections by more than one serotype were demonstrated in some herds.
