Effectiveness of deep-ploughing, periodicity and position in crop rotation

In order to study influence of deep ploughing and crop rotation on crops yield and soil properties two long-term experiments were in Priekuli Plant Breeding Station established. Soil at the site was drained soddy podzolic loam with the following characteristics: organic matter content: 1.5-2.1 per cent, pH sub(KCl: 5.5-5.8, P2O5 and K2O content 15-20 and 7-10 mg per 100g soil respectively. These studies show that gradually deepening of topsoil till 0.25-0.27 m and reversing through of then advantaged the increasing of crop yield but the increasing of yields level is comparatively small. The main importance of deep ploughing is for increasing of soil microbial activity. Gradually deepening of topsoil must be managed only every 5 year. The best results are after reversing of topsoil of clover + timothy field before seeding of cereals acquired. The influence of crop rotations on soil properties most sharp find expression in fertilizations systems without organic fertilizing. In 40 years period changes of organic matter content in fertilizer variant with stable manure are significant
