Situation in Estonian cowsheds before EU help

Numerous investments are needed to guarantee the continuity of Estonian milk production - investments to facilitate the labour of dairy farm workers, investments for bettering the welfare of cows, working conditions of workers, investments to rise the quality of milk and decrease the harmful influence of dairy production waste on the environment. The data of the study that included 16 per cent of cows in Estonia are presented in the paper. The systems of housing, milking and milk cooling have been studied. The state of manure storage and wastewater management was investigated to make clear the risks concerning the environment welfare. While reconstructing the cowsheds, attention must be paid to the state of building bearing structures
