The study was carried out for 2 years (1996 and 1997/98) on old Horro ewes (over 6 years old) previously kept for breeding, to see their response to different levels of pre-market concentrate (49% noug cake, 49% maize grain, 1% salt and 1% bone meal) feeding. Fifteen and twenty one ewes were used during the 1st and 2nd year trial, respectively. The animals were allocated randomly to three treatment groups (grazing alone, trazing +300, and grazing +400 gm concentrate per head/day) after stratifying based on their body weight, and body condition score. In both years the study commenced in December and continued for 120 days finishing period. Selling price of the sheep was estimated as the mean of independent estimates by three experienced live sheep local dealers.
