Essential fatty acid and vitamin allowance techniques

Essential fatty acid requirement criteria were review by Sargent in the EIFAC workshop on Methodology for Determining the Nutrient Requirements of Fish at Eichenau in 1993. The same techniques recommended then apply now to fatty acid requirement studies in seem-intensive pond farming systems. Likewise the vitamin requirement study techniques reported in 1993 apply today with only minor modifications in pond system where supplemental vitamins are obtained from phyto and zooplankton present. Examples of recent research on determining vitamin C allowances and sources include new assay techniques for tissue and feed levels of specific compounds used.
