The effect of N and P fertilization was investiged on the grain yield and quality of winter wheat at Keszthely, on Ramman's brown forest soil in 1995-2000. The experiment was done within the frame work of the National Long-Term Fertilization Trials, with the winter wheat cultivars Mv 21 and Mv Magvas. The result of the five-year experiment proved that N and P fertilizers considerably affected the yield elements, grain yield and quality. Of the yield components, the spike number per unit area increased to the greatest extent, thus determining the increase in the yield as well. As regards grain yield, the simultaneous application of N and P proved to be the most beneficial.
