It is a remarkable phenomenon that the newly hatched common carp larvae - in spite of the fact that it does not eat - increases its live mass, while its dry mass - decreases evidently. This contradiction can beresolved if the changes in the body composition of the larvae are followed, namely if the protein and fat ratio in the yolksac is determined. The results have shown that the 4:1 protein - fat ratio of the newly hatched larvae changed to 10:1 in four days, as the "original" fat content of the larvae decreased to 32%, while its protein content decreased only to 77%. The drastic decrease of the hydrophobic fat allows the water intake by the hydrophyl protein, the ratio of which increases.
