Many of the common protozoan parasites of dogs and cats mainly threaten young animals, and can use cause more or less severe clinical symptoms of parasitosis. In some cases such infection occurs in utero or during the first weeks of life. Protozoan infections can exaggerate symptoms of other diseases or can diminish the effectiveness of vaccinations.
