Growth of whitefin gudgeon (Gobio albipinnatus vladykovi Fang, 1943) in the River Tisza (Eastern Hungary)

In this investigation the ages of 204 specimens were identified on the basis of length frequency and scales. Growth speed of the species appears to have been slower in the River Tisza than in the River Donec in the Ukraine, but faster than in the River Morava in Serbia. The low number of older specimens is most likely attributable to the cyanide contamination in 2000. However, the presence and stable position of younger age groups offer hope that the population of the species will fully regenerate in 2-3 years.
