[Effectivity of Vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizae (VAM) fungus on some isolates and spore number differences on the growth of maize]
1999

The experiment was conducted in laboratory and green house of the Research Institute for Maize and Other Cereals to determine suitable isolates of Vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungus and appropriate number of spores to be applied to obtain high yield of maize. Randomized complete block design was used. Three factors were studied i.e. number of spores (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 spores/plant), source isolates (Bogor, Jeneponto, Bantaeng and Bulukumba) and soil types (podzolic and grumusol). Among the isolates studied, isolates from Bogor and Jeneponto could increase dry weight, P uptake, and VAM infection. Inoculation of spores from 50 to 200 spores/plant was not significantly different to dry weight, P uptake, and VAM infection
