Status of pests in Polyanthus tuberosa

The study to determine numbers and status of pests in P. tuberosa L. was conducted from May 1995 to March 1996. Some insects were collected from fields and identified in the laboratory. Some of them were scale insects (Coccidae), thrips (Thripidae), plant hoppers (Acrididae) and mealybugs (Pseudococcidae), but only scale insects was found in larger number. There were three species of Coccidae identified, one species of Coccus sp., and two species Saissetia sp. The pest could attack 15-25 percent of total planting area and mainly found on leaves. The length range of the egg, nymph and adult of Coccus sp. were 0.23-0.28 mm, 0.30-0.43 mm and 1.57-3.16 mm respectively, whereas the width were 0.12-0.15 mm, 0.17-0.23 mm and 1.10-2.25 mm respectively. These pests were able to move from plant to plant through overlaping leaves at either nymph stadia or after scaling. Further study is needed to obtain more accurate pests status data. This research results can be used as a reference in controlling target pests precisely./Studi inventarisasi untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis hama dan statusnya pada tanaman sedap malam, telah dilakukan pada sentra-sentra produksi sedap malam di Jawa Barat, sejak Mei 1995 sampai Maret 1996. Sampel serangga dikumpulkan dari lapang dan diidentifikasi di laboratorium. Beberapa jenis hama ditemui seperti kutu perisai atau disebut juga kutu tempurung (scale insect/Coccidae), thrips (Thripidae), belalang (Acrididae) dan kutu dompolan (Coccidae). Dari identifikasi diketahui ada 3 jenis kutu perisai yang menyerang yakni Coccus sp. satu jenis dan Saissetia sp. dua jenis. Serangan hama tersebut dapat mencapai 15 persen sampai 25 persen dari luas areal pertanaman dan terutama menyerang pada bagian pangkal dan permukaan atas daun. Kisaran panjang telur, nimfa, dan imago Coccus sp. berturut-turut adalah 0,23-0,28 mm, 0,30-0,43 mm, dan 1,57-3,16 mm, sedangkan lebarnya berturut-turut adalah 0,12-0,15 mm, 0,17-0,23 mm, dan 1,10-2,25 mm. Hama tersebut dapat menyebar melalui persentuhan daun, baik pada stadia nimfa maupun setelah membentuk perisai. Untuk mendapatkan data dan status hama yang lebih tepat diperlukan kajian lebih lanjut. Hasil penelitian ini dapat digunakan sebagai acuan atau informasi awal dalam pengendalian hama yang tepat sasaran.
