Technology of direct seeding lowland rice on irrigation rice field is a technology of an agribusiness oriented farming system based on lowland rice program. In 1996, 95 percent of rice field in Sitiung was done in direct seeding. However, there are many constraints faced by farmers that should be improved such as non sertified high yielding variety, and in appropriate technology on fertilizer application. In dry season of 1996, a farming system based lowland rice program was conducted to improve the above weaknesses. The result revealed that introduced technology (IR-64, fertilizer based soil analysis and using seeder) increased the number of panicle/m2 by 7.5 percent, grain/panicle by 7.8 percent, decreased unfilled grain/panicle by 60 percent, increased the yield by 23 percent and farmer income by 33 percent from improved technology (IR-64, fertilizer based soil analysis)
