[Application of Benthiocarb/2,4-D on direct seeded lowland rice]

Study about application of Benthiocarb/2,4-D on direct lowland rice was conducted at Bandar Buat Experimental Station, Padang, West Sumatra from August to December 1996. The experiment was designed in randomized block design in factorial with three replications. The treatments were direct seeding systems (broadcasting and drill) and dosages of Benthiocarb/2,4-D (0.0, 0.4, 0.8 and 1.2 kgs a.l/ha). Objectives of the experiment were to observe the effect of direct seeding systems and application of Benthiocarb/2,4-D on weed and lowland rice. Results of the experiment showed that direct rice in broadcasting system and application of Benthiocarb/2,4-D herbicide in high dosage (0.4 kg a.l/ha) effective to reduce weed growth in lowland rice. Direct seeding in broadcasting system significantly increased number of tiller and panicle, but had no effect on plant height, number of grain panicle, filled grain seed percentage, 1000 grain weight and yield of rice.
