The acute and subacute toxicity of hexavalent chromium on behavioural alterations and biochemical composition (protein content) of whole body and gut content of common carp, cyprinus carpio was studied. From the study it infers that 1555.0 ml/l of hexavalent chromium is required to achieve 50% mortality of common carp at 96 hours with confidence limits of 160.25 and 149.91 mg/l respectively. A significant decrease in protein content of whole body and gut content was observed indicating higher toxicity of chormium.
