To reap the benefits out of the excellent work carried out in the first phase and to popularize hybrid rice in the country the project is continued for the second phase from 1999 both under National Agricultural Technology Project and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Despite the few problems encountered in the intial stages, timely and favourable decisions by policy-makers and active involvement of researchers, seed producers and the extension specialists would certaily lead to a successful hybrid rice era in the country as we march forward in the present century.
