The summary of fundamental and conceptual research in East Lithuania during 1972-1991 demonstrated a long-term influence of dust limestone on soil chemical properties. The influence of this lime material on soil properties persisted for more than 20 years. Therefore the currently available recomendation may not be adequate for estimating liming efficiency and soil acidification processes. Climatic and soil formation peculiarities significantly influence liming efficiency, duration of its effect and therefore demand detailed long-term investigations in a specific agroclimatic zone. The influence of primary limind with 1.0 rate of dust limestone on hydrolytic acidity persisted for more than 24 years after liming on strongly acid soil
