Complex experiments with a view to searching for plants suitable for energy purposes and to evaluating their cultivation and use were carried out at the Lithuanian Institute of Agricultural Engineering. It was determined that by products of agricultural crop production, such as cereal straw, chaff and straw of perennial seed grasses, unused stems of maise, topinamburs and sunflowers as well as common reed and other perennial grasses growing in natural clusters have sufficiently suitable energy properties for being used as bio fuel
