Documentation and identification of major weeds growing in association with upland rice at the Arakan Valley Complex (AVC), Cotabato was conducted. Moreover, weed management strategies of upland rice farmers were identified, improved and developed. Results showed that there are 47 weed species belonging to 20 families growing in association with upland rice. None dominant weed community types were identified as follows: Ageratum conyzoides, Calopogonium muconoides, Commelina diffusa, Cyperus rotundus, Digitaria sp., Ipomoea triloba, Murdania nudiflora, Paspalum scrobiculatum, and Rottboellia cochinchinensis. For weed management strategies, handweeding (HW) at 10 and 30 DAE, interrow cultivation (IRC) at 10 and 30 DAE, and IRC-HW at 10 and 30 DAE had significantly lesser weed density compared to herbicide-treated plots and those hand weeding once at 20 DAE. Weed population throughout the growth stages of the rice plant was significantly lesser in the conventional tillage practice. However, weed dry weight during the vegetative stage was comparable to that of the zero tillage. At flowering stage, weed dry weight was comparable in all tillage practices while at harvest, the zero tillage had significantly more weeds while a slight difference was observed between the conventional and reduced tillage. Growth yield and yield components of UPLRi 5 were not significantly affected by tillage practices
