About 40 years ago, there were millions of sheep in Nippon (Japan) which were used for meat and wool. Then the sheep numbers were reduced to a miniscule number. The authors tried another project on the exploitation of New Sheep Resources to turn this unfortunate situation around in 1984. Barbados blackbelly and St. Croix, both sheep, were imported for the exploitation of the hair sheep resources in Nippon about ten years ago. Barbados blackbelly sheep are gift of Taiwan Livestock Research Institute in 1985 to the University Farm of Ibaraki Univ. by the cooperation of the Japan Sheep Breeders Association, Tokyo. St. Croix sheep were produced by the fresh embryo carried from the Utah State Univ., USA in the Stock Farm, Univ. of Tokyo, Iwana, Ibaraki prefecture based on the US-Japan co-work ET Experiment Project (1990-'91) by the advise of Dr. W.C. Foote, professor emeritus, Utah State Univ., USA. Out of two kinds of hair sheep breeds shall be able to contribute to the future development of sheep meat production as the sheep genetic resources in the Nippon (Japan) and the Southeast Asia
