A DSS [decision suport system] was developed to assist smallhold Gmelina plantatio developers in preparing or plan for their farm. The system analyzed site factors inputted by the user. It helps the developer prepare a plan that can be modified iteratively by the system. This allows the user to perform "what if" analyses and undertake simulation of plantation development under various conditions that may be specified by the farmer. This situation is dictated by the availability of labor and capital for fertilization and other cultural treatments. Developed in Visual dBASE 7.0 for Windows. The system has two components: the database and the routines. The database contained knowledge about gmelina plantation and technologies in their development. The routines included data entry, management plan preparation and inquiry, and cost-tracking system which are driven mainly by a process-based growth and yield simulation. Application of the system showed its consistency in estimating plantation development scenarios. Results of different simulation of yield in various combination of age, edaphic factors and treatments were not significantly different from the observed actual yields in the different plantations. Results of financial analysis cannot be compared to actual returns because of lack of farms actually generating income already
