Coprological examination of domestic livestock for intestinal parasites in village Bahlola, district Charsaddah (Pakistan)

This study was conducted in Village Bahlola (District Charsaddah NWFP, Pakistan) to investigate the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites in domestic animals through coprological examination. The period of study was from June 1999 upto September 1999. The animals studied were 50 goats, 50 sheep, 81 cattle and 19 buffaloes. Out of total 200 faecal samples, 149 were found positive giving an overall prevalence rate of 74.5%. Among helminths, highest infection rate (31.5%) was found with Haemonchus contortus while Eimeria spp. was on the top among protozoans with a prevalence rate of 51%. Other parasites found with their prevalence % were Trichostrongylus hepatica (10.5%), Ostertagia ostertagi (7%), Strongyloides papillosus (1%), Neoascaris vitularum (1.5%), Moniezia spp. (0.05%) and Dicrocoelium dendriticum (0.5%).
